MANIPULATIVE TECHNIQUES
They are a set of techniques that are based on joint and soft tissue manipulation with the aim of restoring health.
Although they are usually used more in osteopathy, physiotherapy also benefits from them.
Among these techniques we find high-speed passive joint mobilizations which consist of mobilizing the patient’s limbs through the movement of the joints. They are used to release joint irritation and muscle and tendon tension. In other words, its goal is to improve movement capacity and , consequently, avoid stiffness or joint pain. In most cases In some cases, through joint manipulations it is possible to modify posture and generate good synchrony in the musculoskeletal system .
What are the most common types of manipulation?
The most used are thrusts or impulses and muscle-energies. The first is performed by means of a sudden impulse manipulation at high speed and with short amplitude. In this way, the patient’s muscular defenses are surprised. Basically, a movement is generated in the patient that he cannot prevent.
The second is a direct manual therapy technique that improves spinal alignment, thereby reducing pain.
Benefits
They are very effective techniques for treating injuries to the spine and facet joints such as the sacroiliac joint., that of the pubis or the sacrum among others. Some of the effects it produces in patients are:
- It facilitates the movement of the joints of those patients who have lost mobility due to sports injuries, sprains, low back pain, etc.
- It immediately reduces the patient’s pain, especially in patients with lower back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, etc.
