<\/span>The Temporomandibular Joint or TMJ is the joint formed by the temporal bone (at the base of the skull) and the lower jaw or maxilla.<\/span><\/p>\n It is located between the condyle of the mandible, the eminence and the articular fossa of the temporal bone.<\/span><\/p>\n There are two synovial joints on each side, covered by fibrous connective tissue and reinforced by two ligaments, which work synchronously.<\/span><\/p>\n In both joints there is a meniscus or cartilaginous disc between the glenoid cavity and the condyle of the jaw (as we can see in the previous image).
